CLAY Leads March for Life, Shows Up on Drudge Report

CLAY members traveled down to Washington this weekend for the 38th Annual March for Life. After the rally, when the wait for the actual marching to begin got too long, we decided to take some initiative and just walk to the Supreme Court by ourselves. As it turned out, the thousands of others gathered decided to follow us! And so it was that Choose Life at Yale led the 2011 March for Life.

The Drudge Report included a story on the March on its homepage, and CLAY was featured prominently in the image over the link. Check it out (click for a larger image):

You can see the blue CLAY banner on the right side of the photo, which is in the rightmost column.

Special CLAY Event Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, CLAY will be having a special event to take the place of our regular meeting. Here is the information:

"Are Human Beings Human Persons?"
A talk with Dan Norton
6:00 pm, Tuesday, November 9th, 2010
Saybrook-Branford Room

Dan Norton is a candidate for an MA in Philosophy from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in the Spring of 2011. Mr. Norton is President of a Toastmasters group and has spoken to pro-life groups at MIT, Tufts, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Norton will address the question of whether or not the human embryo is a human person. According to some bioethicists, although a human being comes into existence during the embryonic stage, a human person (which is to say, a being worthy of protection) does not come into existence until sometime later. Some philosophers and legal scholars argue that we do not achieve the right to life until some degree of consciousness is achieved during the development of a human being. In his thesis, Mr. Norton argues against this theory and shows that such a view will lead to problems in human equality.

Please join CLAY for what should be a very interesting discussion! This event is free and open to the public. The Saybrook-Branford Room is located between the Branford Courtyard and the Saybrook Stone Courtyard. As usual, we will adjourn to Commons after our meeting for an informal dinner.

CLAY Day of Service

Last Saturday, October 9th, several CLAY members participated in the Yale Day of Service. We took a bus to the North Haven warehouse of The Diaper Bank. We were not aware of this organization until reading the announcement about the Yale Day of Service, but we took a look at their website (linked here) and got really excited about the work they do, namely providing diapers to low-income families in Connecticut.

CLAY recognizes that the abortion debate isn't just a matter of philosophical arguments and political wrangling; it comes down to a matter of culture. We hope that the more we can contribute to organizations like The Diaper Bank, the closer we will be to realizing a culture where no woman feels she has to abort her baby because the financial cost of keeping him or her is too high.

We Are the Pro-Life Generation

Click here to read the article "Youth Uprising: Young Pro-Lifers on the Rise," from the Autumn 2010 issue of Salvo Magazine.

That young people are passionate about the pro-life cause isn't news to us, but it's energizing to hear that others are noticing.
